"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

~ 1 Corinthians 1:18

The Power of the Cross brings me to my knees.

“But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”

~Isaiah 53:5-6

Imagine yourself in the crowd that day. God is on the cross. The creator of the universe is being executed. Spit and blood are caked to His cheeks and His lips are cracked and swollen. Thorns rip His scalp. His lungs scream with pain. His legs knot with cramps. Taut nerves threaten to snap as pain pulsates through His body. Yet, death is not ready. And there is no one to save Him, for He is sacrificing Himself. Imagine yourself in the crowd that day knowing that it is His love for you that took Him to the tree. Imagine yourself in the crowd that day knowing that it is your sin that set the nails in place. Imagine yourself in the crowd that day. Do you stand and cheer “crucify Him” to go along with the crowd? Do you cast your “two cents” to not be out of place? Do you throw a punch because that is what those around you are doing? Or do you fall to your knees grieving over the part you play in His crucifixion?

(Read Isaiah 53)

If you are like me the Power of the Cross brings me to my knees in humble repentance and sorrow over the sin that He died for.

Question: Is there anything in my life that would break the heart of God?

Prayer: Father we bring the reality of our sins to You today and confess them before You. It is with humble hearts that we say we are sorry and turn away from these sins and toward Your forgiveness through the power of the cross. Thank You for Your love for me.
